DESCRIPTION:Developed by Complex Trauma Resources \nFacilitated by Ros Pringle \nMondays\, January 13th to March 3rd\, 9:30am to 12:30pm (No class February 17th) \nOpen to Vancouver Island in-care foster caregivers. This seven-week training includes open resources and research from renowned trauma experts such as Bessel Van DerKolk\, Bruce Parry\, Dan Seigel\, Brene Brown\, and Harvard University. The first module is an introduction to the training and must be previewed before attending the first session. Topics enhance caregivers’ skills and confidence and include: \n1. Understanding Trauma \n2. Principles of Trauma-Informed Care: \n3. Recognizing Signs of Trauma: \n4. Effective Communication: \n5. Coping Strategies: \n6. Collaboration with Professionals: \n7. Cultural Competence: \n8. Self-Care for Caregivers: \nConclusion\nBy the end of the training\, caregivers will be equipped with practical tools and a deeper understanding of trauma-informed care\, enabling them to create a supportive and healing environment for the children in their care. Are you curious or concerned what impact being part of a foster family will have on your children? In this learning opportunity\, Vicki will provide a bird’s eye view of three adaptive family structures foster caregivers have used as a guide for balancing the complex and often competing needs of all foster family members. In addition\, we will discuss some practical tips on ways to enhance your child’s foster caregiving experience and ensure their voices are heard. Vicki Bridge is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist\, (RMFT)\, a member of the B.C. Branch of the Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy\, (CACFT)\, and a Clinical Fellow of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy\, (AAMFT). As a life long foster parent Vicki has deep roots in the Victoria area foster caregiving community.
